So…what I mean by “minute by minute” recap, I mean that every 5 minutes (represented by a bullet point), I am going to comment and recap what just happened…no matter what. Why am I doing this? Is it to be interesting? Is it to be lazy? Probably the latter? Well…let’s see.
-The opening is a Justin Giles group routine. The top 6 dancers pranced around a giant a flower. It was a cool concept, but it moved too slow for me. Then Cat introduces the judges and Nigel reveals the boy and girl with the least amount of votes will be going home. I know, weird concept, right?
-The top 3 girls dance solos for no reason. Sasha’s crazy. Caitlynn’s better than usual. And Melanie is really emotional. I loved that sigh of relief at the end. She is as cute as a button. Now, they’re showing clips of National Dance Day…
-Nigel advertises some new dancing show that I do not care to repeat (although he didn’t do a very good job explaining the concept). The guys dance next. Tadd does some impressive ground work. Marko has some great musicality. And Ricky…why wasn’t this his solo last week?
-Lauren and Kent from last season come back to perform their infamous “Collide” routine (which Travis Wall choreographed…one of his routines that got nominated for an Emmy). It’s a lot better than I remember it being. But damn Lauren they were so good! Then we see a recap of Sasha’s performances last night.
-Then we get video recaps of Caitlynn and Melanie’s night. And Melanie is the first person who deservedly makes our top 4. I have to say…her grandma and mom look like they’re having the times of their lives. Now they can die happy. They are the real winners here. The guys cha cha out.
-All 3 guys are recapped and the first guy who makes the top 4 is…Marko! He looked like he was about to faint so I’m glad he’s out of his misery. Let’s be real here…he and Melanie totally got the most votes tonight. And they’re pretty much our top 2. I don’t even know why we have a top 4 at this point. Whatevs…
-Bad Boys of Dance perform. They are pretty spectacular. I like how there’s one girl. But, really, these guys need to choreograph the group numbers on this show. Now that’s speed! Nigel says Sasha dances with her soul (aww), Melanie dances with her heart (AWWW) and Caitlynn dances with her head (screech!) And then Caitlynn is promptly eliminated. So…thanks for being here? But seriously, I loved her. I was hoping she’d slip into the top 4…but it’s better this way. She wouldn’t gotten so much backlash. Let’s watch her montage now.
-Look, I love Pia as much as the next person. But why is FOX treating her like the winner of season 10 of American Idol? What about the real winner? Or Lauren who came in second? Or Haley and James after that? C’mon now! And her single “This Time” isn’t very good (and it aint doing that well in the charts either.) And isn’t it weird she’s performing on a dancing show…a dancing show?! OK. I’m done. Let’s bring out the guys.
-And Ricky is eliminated. Phew! That was a close one. But, really, he’s a great dancer and I hope to see both him and Caitlynn back as All Stars next season.
